Our nurse Debra who came to see Mrs. B, a client of Capable program, which Deaconess Nurse Ministry has implemented to help the elderly to be safe in their own home. Debra said Mrs. B has been through a lot, was homeless for a while and needs a lot of help, but she is very welcoming and her willingness to learn to take care of herself is very impressive. Debra had a chance to talk to Mrs. B’s landlord, who also said she is a great person and is working hard to get better with her life. Debra noticed that Mrs. B does not have a bed to sleep on so she helped her apply for the emergency assistance with Deaconess Nurse Ministry to buy a bed. We then purchased durable medical equipment and provided fall prevention education for her  to stay safe in her home. Debra also helped her apply for the 100 Neediest Cases with United Way to get help with food, utilities and rental assistance as she is months behind on payments. Her case is being adopted by donors, this means she will have warm meals, safe place to stay during this holiday season.

Mrs. B is beyond grateful and she could not stop saying thank you and saying how wonderful our ministry is. She said: “Deaconess Nurse Ministry is a Godsend! I can not thank you enough.”

Those are only one of the wonderful services that the nurses at the Deaconess Nurse Ministry are doing daily. We are thankful to our donors who support us every day in every way so that we can have the privilege to serve people like Mrs. B. Thank you!
